Re: Omar S drums how to

Believe he was using a PolyEvolver a lot on this album. It could be a sequence he programmed on that, or 808 plus distortion as someone else suggested. These types of sounds can be programmed on most hard and soft synths including free stuff so there's no need to spend money. The foundation of this ...

Re: TAL-Bassline-101

To me the resonance was pretty reminiscent of my MC202, which as I understand it sounds basically like an SH101.

Re: Ableton switchover advice

I went from Lite, which came with my audio interface, to Live Standard and I'm happy. I feel like with all the great free synths and samples out there is just isn't worth it for Suite, although it might be hard to find a good replacement for Operator.

Re: Rhythmical ambiguity or ... ?

There was an interesting BBC horizon program covering this. Our brains naturally like regular rhythm, and like to "guess" or "predict" the beat. It`s why we like dancing in fact. I feel like the same stuff goes on with melody, harmony, and even broader composition. Like sometimes if I'm listening t...

Re: Rhythmical ambiguity or ... ?

I've experience this as well. I don't know any solid techniques for making it happen but I assume it's got something to do with the perceived space the rhythmic elements are in, the groove of the beat, and the dynamics. Talking about it, it sounds kinda hippy dippy, but I think the actual phenomenon...

I figure if Black Mountain and Sunn can be in the same genre then Jesu can too. Plus Jesu is just good.

Re: Analogue emulations in the red

The full version of Satson Channel has a back panel with an "Output Compensation" switch which I imagine takes care of it. If you have the CM version of the plug like me you have to stick another gain plug after it, like you said. I made a rack in Live with a Utility after the Satson and it reduces ...

Yep, in the good old US of A we pride ourselves on making real what everyone else knows is totally inadvisable. On behalf of all us patriots, you're welcome.

Re: Subsekt's favourite analog stuff: synths drum machines,

So what is the best choice for a first mono analogue synth? They all seem to have the same structure/approach to me .. Really hard to answer but of the current crop I think I'd be most interested in the Korg MS-20 mini: low-pass and high-pass filter, semi modular. Just seems like a lot of fun. But ...

Re: Izotope Vinyl

Maybe it's confirmation bias but I don't feel like the noise and scratch on this plug, or on the Ableton vinyl plug, are that convincing -- I'd just sample a record. The more tone shaping controls I could see being useful though.

Re: Do you ever read the manual?

When I was first learning about synths I read these manuals almost cover to cover: Reason 2, Nord Modular, Nord Lead 2X, Waldorf MicroQ, Absynth 3, FM7. I think I had it in my head that I'd come out on the other side a synth ninja. Didn't happen, but it gave me enough background that nowadays I only...
