Re: "Notch the bass-line to give room for the kick"?
well if you have say a kick at G1 49hz or something you can put a bass note playing a perfect 5th at D2 73,5hz approx on top, and mix it way easier than say a A1 bass note on a G1 kick. speakers don't like dissonance in bass try playing chord like structures with respect to your bass, and you'll fin...

Re: Sub-heavy techno track, need mixing feedback!
cool track as well! nice arrangement with a couple of suprises, good drive as well i think the layers of the kickdrum are too much seperated. the high / mid / sub don't sound like 1 kickdrum. maybe you can gel it together a bit more. also the drums and highs overall sound too harsh and sharp too my ...

Re: Bass Station 2 vs SH-101. They sounds really similar
i really like both synths... but i can't say they're that similar. used them both a lot. i think the tones are different, and the self-osc sounds you can do with the sh101 are much smoother than on the bass station... especially in the regions more to the bottom / top of the spectrum. got this out o...

Re: Inside helmet vocals
good point from void about the impulse response.
i think in altiverb there's this preset IR... like in a washing machine and in a plastic tube etc... these stuff will get you there in no time. i can imagine similar stuff is easily found on the web

Re: Abletons Supposed poor PDC... how to avoid it?
this problem is bigger on the mac platform than on PC.... if you use VSTs instead of AU units on a mac you almost always get track delay compensation problems. talking LIVE 8 here
especially dangerous when running stuff in parallel -> phase cancellation problems

Re: How do you deal with latency? external gear + DAW
i adjust the track delay of the audio-in tracks in ableton with a negative delay. works rock solid, the latency in the preferences tabs somehow doesn't work as good...

Re: Podcast with Ableton, warping problem.
note that although Ableton only shows 2 digits after the . in the bpm number... it still accepts a lot more digits after it (and almost always detects a number like this). so for example when it states 125.00, this could be 125.0049 and this is the main reason you have to adjust the warp markers lat...

Re: Stems for mixing practice?
i think it's good practice anyway if you're working in the box to bounce your stems before mixing down. this way you get a different fresh perspective on the mixdown instead of starting to mixdown everything with 99 plugins on each channel...

Re: Music Instruments.
i really like the tone of real instruments... have a piano here + a guitar... but i regularly go out and meet with some musicians to record phrases, sample one shots etc... it's pretty much all over my music. i also find layering synthesized sounds with a almost subliminal layer of real instruments ...

Re: Nice Video showing Kirk Degiorgio in the Studio
well... if you read what i said, you see the things i mentioned are creating the illusions that somethings wrong with the audio engine in live. however, if you're unaware of some errors (which are really there in live 8), you might wonder why some things sound off. to put things in perspective, i m ...

Re: Nice Video showing Kirk Degiorgio in the Studioh
Never had any problems with any audio warping mysteriously when i had turned the warping off in 8 either, which would have showed up in Various phase tests conducted when the audio engine was tested against various daws back then. well on certain live versions this happened for sure. another thing ...

Re: Nice Video showing Kirk Degiorgio in the Studio
not dissing ableton by any means... and sure, it runs perfectly smooth (especially 9 probably) on lots of systems. but the problems i mentioned are measurable and very common. i was talking L8 here. the delay compensation errors can be very annoying if you only have a certain plug in in VST (VST giv...

Re: Nice Video showing Kirk Degiorgio in the Studio
Whats wrong with saying that? Because it's utter bullshit. http://tarekith.com/sound-quality-live-versus-logic/ quoted myself.. a post in a topic about analog summing i've used ableton for quite some time, since version 5... there's no problem with the summing in ableton, this is indeed a myth. HOW...

Re: Where is a good place to start again with a DAW?
it's what you prefer in the end...
you'd better get an updated version of any DAW you like, because there have been some huge improvements interface and sound quality wise...
just demo some stuff and see what you like best.
