Re: Doepfer Dark Energy 2 - Analogue Kicks?
Mk1 user here and yeah you can get some flubby kicks with it but it’s not ideal. Great monosynth though.

Re: How often do you guys use compression?
will finish reading the thread but usually I use fairly transparent compression for a bit of dynamic control, nothing too fancy. or to glue layers together. I have done some more creative things with it before. definitely used it to smush a sound into its reverb tail. edit: read the rest. Good threa...

Re: Best soundsystems you've heard in your non-humble opinio
It's such a shame F1 is ubiquitous and people think it is great. When really it's decades old tech and many many systems outperform it, in some cases with far greater fidelity and resolution especially. The shame is that what that means is that people aren't getting to hear what a really good sound...

turbosound siena
I have access to a good deal on a barely-used Turbosound Siena rig. It would be for a small room, and 6000 watts of bass plus 5000 watts of tops seems like plenty. Anyone have any experience with these? I used the tops for an event a little while ago and they sounded good, lots of headroom, some coo...

Re: Best soundsystems you've heard in your non-humble opinio
Best i’ve heard have probably been funktion 1. Something about how the highs sound papery instead of metallic. The heaviest bass i’ve heard has been from Pk though. Btw the Hydra is booking some solid Sunday daytime sessions at MoS nowadays

Re: how hard is it to put on a show where you live?
Some amazing venues have fallen into my lap. For example, I got a small but very nice location 20 minutes outside of town, pretty much the whole weekend for $315. Granted, the capacity there is 50. Now I have one mini-festival in the works and 2 more urban afterhours that only go til 4am. Hopefully ...

Re: Help with headphone choice
Yeah, you’ll want different headphones for producing and general listening/djing. Studio headphones will sound bass light to you if you are used to bass heavy headphones (most are)

Re: how hard is it to put on a show where you live?
It is highly relevant. I am in Saskatoon, SK - literally the middle of nowhere.Hades wrote: where are you even located, if I may ask ?
because correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you specified this in this topic,
and it might seem relevant to the discussion, no ?

No comment on the reverb, but thanks for introducing me to this artist. Sounds great.

Re: How to incorporate own clips/samples when mixing
What sort of samples do you mean? Or do you mean your own productions? Or do you mean live remixing with a set of samples/clips? On 1000s the best way would be to put your tracks on USB or CD (who uses CDs anymore?) and mix them in. I usually play a few of my own in my sets. Just leave enough headro...

Re: Creative composition/song structure
A lot of the time with techno, it's one basic idea that modulates throughout the whole track. I often think about it as layers of frequency and timbre that build up and/or become more subdued. Adding/removing percussion can help progress things a lot. Always be aware of the change in energy this bri...

Re: jbl lsr308
I'm well aware of the limitations of cheaper monitors, but I truly can't even afford these right now. I thought about getting something from Focal, but their lowest end products are still significantly more than these, and I somehow doubt they'd be much better. I was also thinking about maybe KH120s...

I'm using 8" monitors now and I want them to go below 40hz. Had a separate sub before but not really interested in a setup like that again.

Anyone have any experience with these? I am in pretty desperate need of new speakers as mine are distorting at low volumes and buzzing loudly. I am trying to find something self-powered, relatively accurate, and not too expensive.

Re: how hard is it to put on a show where you live?
private parties may be the way forward. This have been happening a lot during the last 3 years. I'm nearly exclusively playing private / invite-only parties these days. It feels like a home coming to me, more authentic. While there clearly are nice "regular" gigs to get as well I prefer the first m...

Re: how hard is it to put on a show where you live?
That's too bad there are no rental halls available. Where do people hold weddings or fundraisers? I agree that it is better to use a blank space, but the costs and labour involved make it a lot harder. In a small club I can count on 75-100 people and still break even. In a hall, it's more like 150-2...

Re: how hard is it to put on a show where you live?
Nice to read some responses. Void, couldn't you bring your own sound and light to a club and just install them in front (or even in tandem) with what is there? We do that sometimes, although it's so much easier to use a venue with a decent rig.
Any tips for budgeting when the turnout is uncertain?

how hard is it to put on a show where you live?
It seems kind of easy where I live to connect with a venue and do a show or a party. I even connected with a 360-capacity, multi-room venue that you could theoretically run all night (the police never really come to this place, as it's usually reserved for rowdy weddings) for only $775 to rent not t...

Re: Is it wrong that I liked a Dumbcode?
Glad this thread is appreciative of the better parts of Bumload and Adam Sellout's output. To stay relevant for so long is a feat, and although I am sad that there are only a few conceiled project tracks, I understand how it can be impossible to recreate the energy of your old stuff as for contempor...
